Liverpool interested in Barcelona target for ‘outstanding’ midfield signing to tee up Diogo Jota, Wolves reunion
Despite Barcelona’s increasing confidence that the midfielder will play for La Liga, Liverpool is continuing its pursuit of Ruben Neves from Wolves.
According to Football Insider, Neves has a “concrete” interest in Liverpool because of his “outstanding” passing range and the idea that he could “seamlessly” fit into Jurgen Klopp’s system.
Barcelona has made Neves a top target, and they are convinced that they can close the deal. Liverpool will be ready to seize the opportunity if they are unable to finance it.
Despite unexpected links to Ansu Fati, the article claims that Wolves are not interested in discussing part-exchange agreements with Barcelona, who may otherwise find it difficult to pay their asking price.
Neves’ contract at Molineux is approaching its end, but Wolves would still prefer to let their prized asset leave for a big transfer price.
Therefore, if the two clubs are unable to meet in the middle, claims that he has already agreed to personal terms with Barcelona may be worthless.
Liverpool, meanwhile, is prepared to hijack the deal for Neves, who has established himself in the Premier League.
This summer, Liverpool plans to revamp its midfield. James Milner, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Arthur Melo’s departures from the club have already been officially announced.
Alexis Mac Allister of Brighton appears to be their top midfield target. One significant signing might not be sufficient, however, given the number of departures.
As a result, they continue to be interested in Neves, who is 26 years old and approaching the height of his career.
Jorge Mendes, the agent for Neves, who previously assisted Liverpool in acquiring Diogo Jota from Wolves in 2020, may come to their aid. Mendes also has as clients Fabinho and Darwin Nunez.
Neves might be the person to arrive at Liverpool next. But they’d have to work hard to persuade him that they’re a more suitable option than Barcelona.
What next for Liverpool
Ruben Neves is prepared to return to the European level.
Neves acknowledged his desire to test himself in the Champions League during Wolves’ final home match of the season, a 1-1 draw with Everton on Saturday.
“Nothing has happened yet, but I find it difficult to make a choice because I adore this place. I feel at home with my family, he said to Sky Sports.
“Let’s wait and see what happens. I say the same thing every time: I genuinely enjoy being here. But I never pretend to want anything.
“In football you need to go for your main goals and that will be a massive decision for me and my family.
“If this was my last game here I really enjoyed it and I’m very thankful to everyone for the last six seasons.”
Liverpool are unlikely to be in the Champions League next season, but have at least nailed down a spot in the Europa League and will be looking to break back into the top four next season.
