Alexis Mac Allister is wanted by Liverpool, and the Argentinean is said to have made a decision, but Jürgen Klopp is losing another assistant coach.

David Woodfine, Liverpool’s director of loan management, is expected to leave the club this summer as changes are being made behind the scenes at the Anfield club.

After Michael Edwards’ successor decided to leave his job just a year after accepting it, Julian Ward, the club’s sporting director, is expected to be replaced (with veteran German Jörg Schmadtke the favourite).

Ian Graham, the head of research, is also expected to leave and be replaced by Will Spearman.

Woodfine replaced Ward when the current sporting director was promoted and his role includes managing the various loans that Liverpool sanctions each season.

That is vital in making sure that players develop at the right rate if they are to have a future at senior level for Liverpool (for example, Harvey Elliott’s year at Blackburn Rovers), but also in making sellable assets more valuable.

Neco Williams, for instance, is just one player that Liverpool has made decent money from in recent times after he impressed while on a temporary spell elsewhere.

Alexis Mac Allister ‘decision’

Liverpool transfer target Alexis Mac Allister has decided that he wants to play in the Champions League next season, according to The Athletic, which could mean that a move to Anfield is less likely.

As well as Liverpool, Manchester United is also keen on the 24-year-old World Cup winner, with a move away from Brighton expected in the summer. The Athletic reported last week that there was some form of clause within his contract that would allow a transfer to take place in the upcoming window.

Mac Allister’s father has also confirmed that he expects his son to make the next step in his career at the end of the season, with plenty of interest in his services
