Robert Lewandowski scored a hat trick as Barcelona thrashed Viktoria Plzen 5-1 in their first group game of the UEFA Champions League.

Barca got after Plzen from the off and on 13 minutes went ahead when Franck Kessie nodded home after Jules Kounde won first contact following a corner.

When Andreas Christensen spun Jhon Mosquera and pulled him down, it appeared as though a matter of how many, but the referee pointed on the spot and issued a red card.

However, a review by the VAR revealed that Christensen’s foul came after Mosquera’s elbow, hence the decision was overturned.

Lewandowski gave Barca a 2-0 lead shortly after with a lovely finish. Through Jan Sykora pulled a goal back for Plzen, Lewandowski headed his second and his team’s third goals in first-half injury time after excellent work from Ousmane Dembele.

When Plzen returned from the break, you worried for them, and sure enough, wonderful goals from Lewandowski and Torres, who came on as a substitute, extended their advantage.

However, that was the last goal scored, as the La Liga giant secured a comfortable 5-1 victory over the visitors.
