Mason Mount’s stance emerges as Liverpool and Bayern Munich battle for Chelsea star
The Chelsea midfielder’s departure from Stamford Bridge this summer has been reported as contract negotiations drudge on, although he is thought to have preferences on his future.
Liverpool and Bayern Munich are keeping an eye on Mason Mount’s stalled contract negotiations and are thought to still be confident that his Chelsea future will be resolved.
The 24-year-old English midfielder’s current contract expires at the end of this season, but negotiations for a new one have dragged on for months as the Blues have added many new players.
The Athletic reports that Mount would want to remain at Chelsea amid persistent interest from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Bayern, who recently hired former Blues manager Thomas Tuchel, despite concerns that Mount might be offloaded to help Chelsea comply with Financial Fair Play standards.
A key member of the Chelsea team that won the Champions. Mount has been deemed ‘unsellable’ by former Blues goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer amid suggestions that he could leave.
While negotiations between the academy graduate’s agents and those at the top of the Chelsea organisation have stalled, many believe he will end his stint at Stamford Bridge.
Premier League side Liverpool was the first team linked with a bid for Mount, but now that Tuchel has been appointed at the Allianz Stadium, Bayern are regarded as the favourites to land the England international.
Given that his contract is running out, this upcoming window represents Chelsea’s last practical opportunity to sell him if he has no intention of signing a contract extension.
The Three Lions star reportedly received a contract offer from the Blues that would have lasted until 2030, but the parameters of the agreement did not meet Mount’s expectations. The Stamford Bridge exit door thus appears to call.

Schwarzer insists that Chelsea must make an effort to address the situation and sign Mount to a new contract as soon as possible.
“He’s almost unsellable,” the ex-Blues goalkeeper told Sky Sports. “He’s a player you would not sell. He’s a Chelsea kid through and through. He’s been at the club all his life.
“That’s what fans die for. Fans love that. He’s such an incredible player. I certainly would not be selling him as he is such a phenomenal player.”
It has been reported that Chelsea’s asking price for Mount this summer will sit at around £50million, which Bayern could certainly afford to fork out.
