Liverpool ‘ interested’ in £100m powerhouse; he’s a boyhood Reds fan
According to reports, Liverpool is seriously considering a summer transfer for Josko Gvardiol.
The RB Leipzig star, who has a release clause set at “near to £100 million,” has been linked with the Reds for the previous few months as he considers his options before the upcoming transfer window.
Graeme Bailey reported the news for 90min, with the journalist tweeting (via @GraemeBailey): “Josko Gvardiol weighing up options ahead of summer transfer decision. Chelsea have long been linked, but the chase for him is hotting up.
“Real Madrid are positioning themselves but Man City and Liverpool are now actively interested. @90min_Football“
Within the report, it’s stated: “Sources have confirmed to 90min that both Manchester City and Liverpool have sent scouts to keep regular updates on the defender, with the two heavyweights ensuring they remain in the loop.
“The final decision will come down to Gvardiol, but a move this summer does look increasingly likely as clubs will also want to try and avoid having to pay a release clause of close to £100m which kicks in next year.”
The fact that the 21-year-old has publicly declared his support for the Reds may, on the surface, give Jurgen Klopp’s side an advantage in this transfer quest.
In a larger context, though, considering potential activity elsewhere in the summer, they might not have the opportunity to go big on the Croatian.
The midfield is expected to be Liverpool’s top priority position in the upcoming transfer window, with Jude Bellingham perhaps costing as much as £130 million if they can get him through the doors at Anfield, according to Fabrizio Romano in his Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside.

Given his young age and his passing abilities, Gvardiol, who averages an excellent 1.4 aerial duels per game in the Bundesliga (WhoScored), may be seen as the ideal potential addition to the Reds back four.
With 88.14 passes per game over the previous 12 months, the 6-foot behemoth sits in the top 1% of center backs in Europe’s five major leagues, according to FBref.
Nevertheless, as stated above, Liverpool may not be able to satisfy his £100 million release clause this summer while also trying to prioritize other areas of the squad.
