Why Raphael Varane is keen on a move to Manchester United 1 Sportelo

Real Madrid and France defender Raphael Varane  has revealed the reason he wants a move to Old Trafford, this summer.

Varane wants to join Manchester United this summer because he feels it is the right time to leave Real Madrid for a new challenge, according to reports.

The 28-year-old has spent almost a decade at the Bernabeu, playing over 300 games for the Spanish giants and helping them win 18 major honors, including three La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues, and 4 Club World Cup trophies during that time.

The French International has identified by Ole Gunnar Solskjae as one of his top targets for this summer and the Independent says the defender is keen on the move to Old Trafford.

It is an uncertain period at Real Madrid, with former Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti recently replacing Zinedine Zidane as manager following a season in which the club failed to win any silverware.

Solskjaer has the support of top Chiefs at the club in a bid to make fresh signings this summer, with a new centre-back partner for Harry Maguire and a winger at the top of his wish-list.

The Red devils hope to perform better than their second place finish with 12 points behind Premier League champions Manchester City, and also failed to win any silverware after losing the Europa League final to Villarreal.

While the club continue to pursue Jadon Sancho, Euro 2020 star Varane certainly fits the bill from a defensive perspective and former England star Sol Campbell believes he would be a ‘really good’ signing for the Red Devils.

‘Varane is really good. There are shouts of him going to Manchester United because it’s not clear what’s going on at Real Madrid,’ Campbell told talkSPORT.

‘If they get him that’s a really good buy. He’s quick, he can play football, he’s been there and done it, he knows how to get through big games.

‘He knows what it means to play for big clubs. If he can handle Real Madrid he can handle United.’

Varane has started all of France matches in the Euro 2020 so far and should be in action for Didier Deschamp’s side when they tackle Switzerland in the Round of 16 on Monday.
