The 34-year-old was seen in Italy before his medical checks that are expected to take place at the Milanello training ground on Friday.

The former Arsenal striker will sign a two-year contract with Stefano Poli’s team, in a deal that will cost the Rossoneri a total of €2m €1million directly to Chelsea, plus another €1 million in add-ons.

According to Football Italia, there should be an option of a third year, should AC Milan want to keep the veteran striker beyond the two years.

The Frenchman forward signed for the Blues in the January 2018 transfer window from London rivals Arsenal in a deal totaling around £15.30 million.

Since signing with the Stamford Bridge club, Giroud has played with various coaches, including Antonio Conte, Maurizio Sarri, Frank Lampard, and most recently Thomas Tuchel, scoring 39 in all competitions in a Chelsea jersey.

“Mentally I have really the feeling he enjoys every day being a professional soccer player on this level and this is the level he needs to be.

“He trains like a 20-year-old, as a 24-year-old. He is a guy who has a good mixture of seriousness and joy in training. He is always positive and it is a big factor for the group.

“He starts, when he comes from the bench, he has all these qualities and it is good like this.”
