Barcelona center-back Samuel Umtiti has picked up a calf injury in only Barcelona second training since they returned from the break amid the coronavirus.
Umtiti became the first Barcelona, player to pick up a calf injury injury in only Barcelona’s second training at the Ciutat Esportiva.
Barcelona’s first team returned to training on Friday, only after testing negative to the COVID-19, and players were excited to train once again after a long period of break amid the pandemic.
La Liga teams were given permission to return to individual training during the week, as the Spanish top division hopes to return in June.
Barcelona have made efforts to avoid injury by training, with Quique Setien giving his players a day off on Sunday, sessions that slowly raise workload and intensity, but these steps have not helped Umtiti to avoid injury.
The Catalans top the la Liga table, 2 points ahead of rival Real Madrid before matches were suspended.
A club statement stated “@Samumtiti has a right calf injury. His progress will determine his availability for the coming workout”
