Transfer Window: Arsenal Targets Atletico Madrid’s Midfielder Thomas Partey 1 Sportelo

Ghanaian and Atletico Madrid’s midfielder Thomas Partey has been heavily linked with a move to the premier club, Arsenal, in the past weeks.

Partey, 26, has a running contract with Los Rojiblancos that is active until the year 2023, he was also offered an improved contract extension by Atletico, which would see him remain in Spain till 2025.

But, it has been rumored that the Ghanian international declined to sign. A Ghanaian sports journalist, went live on the radio to claim that Partey called the contract offered by Atletico as “rubbish” and he was totally upset about it.

Atletico Madrid were set to double his wages at the club just to keep the superb midfielder who is on the wish list of top European club.

Sources also claims that Madrid would go immediately for their alternative Wilfred Ndidi of Nigeria if Partey eventually leaves.

Arsenal has been on top of the discussion of signing Partey and head coach Mikel Arteta has continually been reaching out to the player’s agent. It is rumored that Partey would give an official statement of his decision by the end of the week.

This will bring to an end the speculations surrounding the future of the midfielder.
If Arsenal are able to convince Partey to join them, then they will be willing to pay Atletico Madrid the £44.5 million release clause, that is tagged on the player.

There are reports that Atletico would be very eager to let Partey go if they can, get a swap deal for him with Arsenal’s Alexander Lacazette. Lacazette was also linked to exit the Emirates for quite a while now, and it has been brought to notice that he is on the radars of the coaching crew at Atletico Madrid. Arsenal may, however, be unwilling to make this deal as Lacazette is more of a key figure at the club currently. And even with the inconsistency in his performance this season, Arteta would definitely still be in need of his services.
