Thomas Tuchel sends major hints on Loftus-Cheek Chelsea future after an impressive Arsenal win.
Chelsea Fc did well to pull off a 2-1 win over Arsenal in the Mind Series on Sunday.
Chelsea forwards Kai Havertz and Tammy Abraham scored as they edged past the Gunners in the pre-season friendly at the Emirates. And in the match, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel gave chances to some of his fringe players. And among them was Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
And after the match, Thomas Tuchel has kind of challenged the player to earn his place in the squad.
Loftus-Cheek had a breakout season under Maurizio Sarri in 2018-19 and was one of their impressive performers. But a post-season injury ruled him out mostly in the subsequent season. The player was loaned to Fulham last season and he impressed at Craven Cottage.
Loftus-Cheek is back in training with Chelsea in the pre-season and featured in their win over Arsenal. Although Loftus-Cheek has been tipped with a move away, manager Thomas Tuchel has given a hint that there may still be a future for the player at Stamford Bridge.
“Generally, I am happy and that’s why he plays, he deserves to play at this point of the preparation,” Tuchel said after the match.
“But I think he can do even more, he can show up more. He can show more physical capability and drive more with the ball. I’m never satisfied with him, I have the feeling we need to push him to the absolute limit.
“It’s too early to judge Ruben. He has everything in his hands and it’s on him to decide his own future like every player. He has to keep on going 150 per cent because 100 per cent is not enough,” the German manager concluded.
