The 23-year-old was replaced by goal scorer Olivier Giroud in the 20th minute after a tackle from Newcastle defender Jamaal Lascelles.

And as a result, the forward could now be ready for a period on the sidelines ahead of crucial games against Southampton, AtlΓ©tico de Madrid and Manchester United.

Chelsea could also be without Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz for Saturday’s clash, although Tuchel is hopeful the pair can prove their fitness in time.

Havertz missed Monday night’s clash with a blow, while Silva is in the final stages of his recovery from a muscle injury.

Last night victory over Newcastle means Chelsea are now in the fourth position on the log with 42 points from 24 games.
