Thomas Tuchel may have found perfect Achraf Hakimi Alternative as Chelsea receives transfer boost

Thomas Tuchel

While Chelsea will be looking for big money moves for Erling Haaland and Declan Rice, several players have made a name for themselves at this summer’s European Championships.

After a quiet start to a typically busy summer transfer window for Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel is still looking for his first signing as Blues boss.

The Chelsea manager appeared to be close to welcoming Achraf Hakimi to Stamford Bridge before the price reportedly rose and a move to France followed.

The Moroccan right-back has finally joined Paris Saint Germain in a deal worth 65 million euros from Inter Milan for a five-year contract, according to Italian media Gazzetta.

Having lost the transfer battle for Hakimi, the Express reported that Roman Abramovich wanted to win the war by “doubling down” his interest in signing Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.

upon returning to preseason training at Cobham, Tuchel has yet to receive his first signing as coach of the Blues.

With many of his players excelling at Euro 2020, Tuchel may find more luck immersing himself in the talent pool that has been shown this summer.

Two potential options who have starred.

Robin Gosens
Robin Gosens was a shining light at the Euror 2020 in Joachim Low’s side, despite the early exit of the Germans, scoring once and assisting twice.

He offered a tremendous amount of support, in attack and defence, as part of a back five in the left wing-back role, similar to what Thomas Tuchel implemented at Chelsea with Ben Chilwell.

The 27-year-old has been a staple for club, as well as country, featuring 32 times for Atalanta last season in Serie A while directly contributing towards 19 goals.

Chelsea have set a £21m price tag on left-back Emerson, having not started a single Premier League game last season and looks surplus to requirements.

Marcos Alonso also could depart Stamford Bridge with Romainterested in the Spaniard’s services, according to reports in Italy.

With Emerson and Alonso getting closer and I depart, Gosens would provide great coverage and competition for Chilwell on the left-back, especially with the FIFA Club World Cup among the other competitions next season.

Joakim Maehle
Gosens’ Atalanta temate Joakim Mæhle should also be targeted by Tuchel this summer, despite the Denmark international only joining the Serie A side in January 2021.

The 24-year-old right wing-back can also play left wing-back as shown at Euro 2020, featured 41 times this season contributing directly towards seven goals in all competitions.

He was tagged as one of Denmark’s most dangerous players in the European Championships, scoring twice and assisting once, while also playing every minute possible under manager Kasper Hjulmand.

Tuchel sees Reece James’ future at Chelsea under his tenure as a right centre-back in a back three, report the Express. This means that Mæhle would slot into right wing-back and provide backup as a left wing-back in Tuchel’s side – potentially offering the perfect Hakimi alternative.

Maehle is currently valued at €30m as per CIES Football observatory and would slot into right wing-back and provide backup as a left wing-back in Tuchel’s side – potentially offering the perfect Hakimi alternative.
