On loan Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi was on target for his club Mainz 05 being his first for the Bundesliga club against cologne.

Taiwo Awoniyi was on target for Relegation-threatened Mainz, his first goal for the Bundesliga side, since his loan move from premier league club, Liverpool.

The forward had expressed his readiness ahead of today’s clash with Cologne in an interview with BBC sports Africa.

Mainz held Fc Cologne, to a 2-2 draw in Sunday encounter at the Rhein EnergieStadion.

The home team took an early lead from through a spot-kick that was converted by Mark Uth in the 6th minutes.

Cologne extended their lead in the 53rd minute through Florian Kainz assisted by Dominick Drexler to make it 2-0.

Awoniyi came off the bench in the 55th minute and pull one back to reduce the deficit for the away team to 2-1.

18 minutes before the final whistle, Pierre Kunde scored through a right footed shot from the centre of the box to the bottom right corner to level the game for

With this goal, the Liverpool loanee becomes the 7th youngest Nigerian Born player to score in the Bundesliga behind the likes of Jay-Jay Okocha, Victor Agali, Solomon Okoronkwo, Anthony Ujah, Sunday Oliseh and Chinedu Obasi in that order.
