Super Eagles defender Troost Ekong made a surprise switch from Serie A to join Watford in the English Championship and has given his reason behind his decision.
William Troost Ekongg has revealed the reason behind his decision to join Watford is to fulfill his dream of playing in the English Premier League as he believes in the club project.
The 27-year-old joined the Hornet on a five-year deal from Serie A side Udinese for an undisclosed fee.
Watford were relegated from the premier league last season after four years in the English top division, Vladimir Ivic’s lead team are eyeing an immediate return to the premier league. Ekong has stated that it was his decision to join the Championship side and is the right move.
“I believe in the project for Watford to get back into the Premier League,” Ekong told BBC Sport Africa.
“It’s always been my dream to play in the Premier League, and Watford has given me the platform now to get there. Looking at the squad, I believe we have the quality to do it.”
I’ve always made tactical decisions for my career, and this felt like the right step now for me and my family,” Ekong added.
The former Bursaspor defender had previously played in the Netherlands, Belgium, Turkey, and Italian league before making the switch to England.
