Diallo came off the bench and made an immediate impact in the first leg of the Europa League round of 16 at Old Trafford, heading off a pass from Bruno Fernandes.

The 18-year-old Ivorian winger joined Manchester United from Atalanta in January and his goal appeared to lead his side to a crucial victory over Italian club Milan.

But Milan’s Simon Kjaer beat Red Devils forward Dean Henderson with a header in the final seconds to ensure the tie remains 1-1 before next week’s second leg.

Speaking to BT Sport after the match Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: ‘It’s creative, he plays with freedom. It’s a great pass from Bruno by the way and that’s what makes the goal.

“It’s a good start for Amad. He’s been on the pitch before but it was a nice goal. He’s still got lots to learn but he’ll be better for it.”

On United’s performance against Milan, Solskjaer said: “Very disappointed to concede with one of the last kicks of the ball, or head.

“That late goal makes it harder but it was always going to be down to the second game.

“Dean Henderson can save it of course, but we should have attacked the ball. We were a long way off it today.

“We were too slow with the possession, it is sometimes hard off the back of a game like Manchester City.”
