Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that Marcus Rashford will need an ankle scan after the Red Devils ended Manchester City’s 21-game winning streak with a resounding 2-0 win at the Eithad.

Rashford assisted Luke Shaw as the Red Devils extended their lead in the 50th minute after an early penalty from Bruno Fernandes.

But the English striker went down clutching his left ankle with 20 minutes to go to Sunday’s derby and had to be replaced by Mason Greenwood, slowing down the visiting evening a bit.

When asked about the severity of Rashford’s injury in his post-game press conference, Solskjaer said: “I don’t know. It’s something with his ankle.

“When he sprinted 70 yards to save a goal, it showed the attitude of the boy.

“I think he went over on his ankle but we need to do a scan, I’ve not had time to speak to the doctor yet.”

Shortly after the final whistle, Rashford took to Twitter to congratulate his team-mates on seeing out the game to secure the win.

“Not the way I wanted to see out the game but a big 3 points, well done lads,” he said.
There had already been great concern surrounding a shoulder injury that Rashford has been struggling with for much of the season.

The attacker first complained of discomfort in United’s 3-1 win at Everton in November and recent reports suggested he might need surgery after England’s European Championship campaign in the summer.
