Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has suggested he could drop goalkeeper David De Gea for Dean Henderson when the Red Devils host Newcastle United on Sunday.

Henderson returned between the sticks in Thursday’s Europa League win over Real Sociedad and remained clean as United won 4-0.

De Gea has largely remained Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first choice goalkeeper this season but was to blame when United threw away a two-goal lead over Everton on February 6.

The Spain international kept his place in goal against West Brom last weekend and paid off his manager’s trust with a nice two saves to deny Mbaye Diagne a potential winning goal.

But, Solskjaer has disclosed that 23-year-old Henderson could be in line to start at Old Trafford this weekend.

“Of course Dean is in with a shout,’ Solskjaer told a press conference ahead of the visit of Steve Bruce’s side.

“We pick a team on Saturday and Dean was very solid, good kicking and he could or should have had an assist for Marcus, which is another thing we worked on.

“He was clean in his handling, clean in his short passes and it was a good performance.

“He is maturing all the time but I have a very, very good goalkeeper in David. He saved us against West Brom so I can’t say to you now.”
