Olivier Giroud was ruthless on the night scoring all goals as the blues, despite having qualified for the round of 16 thrashed Sevilla 4-0 in Spain.

 

Chelsea were through to the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League but needed to make a statement on the night with Striker Olivier Giroud putting up a man of the match performance on the night.

 

Frank Lampard side stormed to victory, despite making nine changes the team that played out a goalless draw against Tottenham in the premier league at the weekend.

 

The Blues maintain their 15 games unbeaten run in all competitions and did so by humiliating Sevilla in their home and Giroud was the man for the show as he netted all four goals for the London club.

 

Giroud gave Chelsea the lead seven minutes into play, making it 1-0 by curling the ball into the top corner assisted by Kai Havertz.

 

The French international added another to double the blues lead firing a right-footed shot past Sevilla goalkeeper Pastor.

Fellow countryman NGolo Kante was on hand to cross a fine ball and a great header from Giroud to make it a hat-trick.

Sevilla’s harrowing night was not yet over, as the world cup winner was fouled in the box and he stepped up to convert the penalty kick to make it four.

 

The former Arsenal forward has made the selection of strikers more difficult for Frank Lampard as he hopes to secure regular playing time with the manager.

 

Despite the defeat, Sevilla has qualified into the round of 16, while Krasnodar finished 3rd and book a place in the Europa League.
