Ronald Koeman set to replace Setien Quique

Former Barcelona player Ronald Koeman has been tipped as the next head coach Catalans after Quique Setein was sacked.

Barcelona announced the sacking of their headΒ  coach Quique Setein after the humiliating 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the quarter finals of the champions league.

According to ESPN, the decision to sack Setien after a board meeting on Monday, but there have been reports that the action to fire him was taken long before the game against Bayern, with Ronald Koeman, targeted as the next coach for the Catalan club.

Barca are in talks to pay compensation to the Dutch FA after Koeman was tipped to take over the Managerial job.

 

A Barcelona statement after Setien’s dismissal read: “This is the first decision within a wider restructuring of the first team which will be agreed between the current technical secretary and the new coach, who will be announced in the coming days.”

The other candidates includes former Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino, Ex-Barca player Xavi Hernandez who is currently in charge at Qatari side Al Sadd.

Koeman, a former Barca player, is said to be the preferred option of president Josep Maria Bartomeu, with an announcement expected within the week.

 

If appointed, Koeman will be Barcelona’s third coach in a year with many uncertainties surrounding the club.
