Red Bull Leipzig surprisingly defeats Atletico Madrid 2-1 to set up Semi-final clash with PSG in the UEFA Champions League.

 

Red Bull Leipzig are through to the semi-finals of Europes biggest competition the for the first time in their history after edging out Atletico Madrid 2-1 at Estadio Jose Alvalade on Thursday night.

Dani Olmo opened the scoring for the Bundesliga side in the 51st minute after heading home Marcel Sabitzer’s cross.

 

Atletico Madrid leveled the game with 19 minutes left. Joa Felix stepped up and converted a penalty kick within minutes of coming off the bench.

 

With the clock ticking for extra time. RB Leipzig, through Tyler Adams, added another. The midfielder shot took a big deflection off Savic past Oblak and into the net.

 

Atletico Madrid’s search for an equaliser came to a fruitless end when the center referee blew the final whistle after 7 minutes of added time.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side will battle Paris Saint-Germain for a place in the final on Tuesday night.
