Shakhtar 2-0 Real Madrid: Real Madrid round of 16 Champions League qualification hanging on a balance after defeat.

Real Madrid chances of a place in the next round of the Champions League, is now uncertain after they were beaten 2-0 by Shakhtar Donetsk of Ukraine.


The 13th time champions league winners are placed third in Group B with 7 points same as Shakhtar Donetsk.

After a goalless first half draw, Dentinho have the host the lead in the 57th minute of play, with a treble defending from Raphael Varane, darting onto a loose ball and smashing it past Thibaut Courtois.


Real attempted to come back, but never looked liked breaking down the defence of Shakhtar.

Manor Solomon made it 2-0 with an unstoppable finishing from outside the box, while Madrid players watched helplessly.


This defeat means that Real Madrid have lost twice to Shaktar this season champions league, having suffered a 3-2 defeat in the first leg of this clash in October.

Los Blancos will now have to beat group leaders Borussia Monchengladbach on the last matchday and hope Inter Milan defeat Shakhtar to stand any chance of qualifying for the next round of the competition or eliminated.

Real Madrid poor form of run continues as they have lost three out of five matches in all competitions.


Meanwhile in the other match of group B, Inter Milan recorded their first win, by overcoming Bundesliga side Monchengladbach 3-2 on the night with 2 goals courtesy Romelu Lukaku, keeping their hope of round of 16 alive.
