A 25th-minute penalty goal from midfield maestro Kevin De Bruyne gave City the lead after Joseph Gomez fouled Raheem Sterling in the 18-yard box.
Sterling doubled city’s lead to make it 2-0 and youngster Phil Foden put the game beyond the visitors just before the half time whistle assisted De Bruyne.
Liverpool came back from the break with hopes of reducing the deficit to claim respect. Still, they were further disappointed as a 66th minute Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain own goal put the game out of the reach of the Reds making it 4-0.
Pep Guardiol’s side cut Liverpool’s lead at the top to 20 points while maintaining their second place on the premise league table with 66 points from 32 games.
The result of today’s match will not stop Liverpool who are on 86 points from being presented with the premier league trophy in the coming weeks.
