Portugal Primeira Liga set June 4 date for return

The football league announced on Tuesday that the Portugal Primeira Liga would be able to restart June 4.

Football League in Portugal is set to resume June 4 after it was suspended on March 8 due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Portugal’s Prime Minister Antonio Costa had announced the final weekend of May as the restart date for the country’s top-flight late last month.

However, players will have to undergo testing twice a week and all necessary action needed to prevent the spread of the virus, while following strict medical protocol.

“We wish to guarantee stadiums are rigorously inspected and the professionals are tested. June 4 is the date when the 25th round of matches of Liga Portugal can resume,” the league statement said.

This announcement comes days after a Benfica player Tevares tested positive for the coronavirus thou, asymptomatic been has since be quarantined.

With 10 rounds of matches left to be played, Fc Porto were top of the Premeira Liga, one point ahead of Benfica before league games were suspended amid the coronavirus.
