Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang admits he should have scored “a couple of goals” after missing a sitter in tth gunners Europa League draw against Benfica.

 

Aubameyang scored his first Premier League hat trick in Sunday’s win against Leeds United and could have scored another goal against Benfica but missed a number of opportunities when Arsenal drew 1-1.

The Gabon international seemed destined to give Arsenal the lead in the first half when Hector Bellerin struck a square ball in his path and the goalkeeper struggled to move across his goal.

 

Aubameyang, however, missed the post. The 31-year-old missed a few more opportunities later and Gunners boss Mikel Arteta insisted after the game that his team had to be “more ruthless”.

 

 

After the match , Aubameyang said on social media: ‘We deserved better and I should score couple goals today but still one game to go we keep going. Well done Bukayo Saka.’

Despite Aubameyang’s misses, a 1-1 draw was not a disaster for Arsenal, who scored a crucial away goal when the in form Bukayo Saka canceled Afonso Fernandes’s penalty in the second half.

 

Arteta had revealed in a post-match conference that Arsenal needs to be clinical in front of goal as they prepare to face Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.
