Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola’s mother passed away after contracting the coronavirus infection.
Dolors Sala Carrio, aged 82 died in her home town of Manresa in Catalonia, the news was confirmed by City.
A tweet message posted by Manchester City, read “The Manchester City family are devastated to report the death today of Pep’s mother Dolors Sala Carrio in Manresa, Barcelona after contracting coronavirus,” the club wrote on Twitter.
“Everyone associated with the club sends their most heartfelt sympathy at this most distressing time to Pep, his family and all their friends.”
Premier League clubs including city rival Manchester United, Liverpool, Westhampton, and Everton have all sent their condolences to the city Coach via Twitter
The 49-year-old recently donated one million euros to the Angel Soler Daniel foundation in Barcelona for the purchase and supply of medical equipment, according to MARCA, to aid the fight against the coronavirus in Spain.
Spain has suffered one of the worst outbreaks of the virus in the world, with 135,000 confirmed cases and 13,000 death recorded.
