Liverpool star Mohamed Salah feels that the loss of fans at Anfield has hit Liverpool extremely hard over the past year, to the point where the Reds have suffered more than any other team without their supporters.
The Premier League Champions have surprisingly had a poor season this time out and has surrendered the title rather meekly.
Jurgen Klopp’s team is currently seventh in the table, 25 points behind league leaders Manchester City, and faces a tough fight to finish in the Champions League spots rather than lift the title again.
When asked by Spanish publication Marca if he felt that Liverpool at Anfield or Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu had felt the impact of playing without any more fans and had no doubts about his answer.
“Anfield! I think everyone can say it, Anfield,’ the Egyptian told Marca. ‘We lose a lot without our fans. I think we are the team that suffers the most without their fans.”
The Reds have also struggled with numerous injuries this season, losing players like Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, and Jordan Henderson to long-term injuries.
When asked what was the reason for the disappointing season so far, Salah declined to specify but insists it can still be a good season with a Champions League win.
“Many things happened at the same time,’ said the 28-year-old. ‘Luck was not on our side. That made us want to win the Champions even more and I hope we do.”
Salah continued his fine form into the international break, scoring twice on Monday as Egypt beat Comoros 4-0.
And will returns to action for Liverpool on Saturday at Arsenal in the Premier League.
