Former Chelsea Midfielder, John Mikel- obi parted ways with his Turkish club Trabzonspor on Tuesday a few days after a social media post.

The Turkish top-flight team had released a statement stating it was mutual consent between the club and the player on terminating his contract.

This was just days after the 32-year-old criticized the Turkish football league for refusing to suspend league matches like other leagues across Europe due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

Mikel reviewed he was told by the club president Ahmet Agaoglu to delete his Instagram post criticizing the Turkish league before his dismissal.

They [the club] were really upset about the whole thing.

“I was told to meet with the president in his office one-on-one. He asked me to take [the post] down. I told him I wasn’t going to do that.

“It’s my opinion. This is how I feel. We live in a free world. I have freedom of speech. I can express my opinion,” Mikel Obi said.

Nigeria’s former skipper has since returned to England with his family, choosing to bee with his loved ones at the critical period.

League games in Turkey were finally Suspended by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) on Thursday as the Coronavirus continues to spread.
