Arsenal announced on Thursday night that their Coach Mikel Arteta tested positive for coronavirus.

The North London club game against Brighton has been suspended

The training ground of the club has been closed and all those who came in contact with the Spaniard have been advised to self-Isolate.

The 37-year-old Coach said: “This is really disappointing but I took the test after feeling poorly

“I will be at work as soon as I’m allowed.”

“The health of our people and the wider public is our priority and that is where our focus is,” said club managing director Vinai Venkatesham.

“We are in active dialogue with all the relevant people to manage this situation appropriately, and we look forward to getting back to training and playing as soon as medical advice allows.”

Arsenal was due to face Brighton in the Premier League at Amex Stadium on Saturday (15:00 GMT) but Brighton released a statement, shortly after confirmation of Arteta’s positive test, announcing that the game had been called off.

Premier League and EFL are said to hold an emergency meeting today to decide on further fixtures.
