Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta has blasted his players for the”unacceptable ” loss to Brighton.

Arsenal slumped to a 2-1 defeat as they were hosted at the Amex Stadium home to Brighton and hove Albion on Saturday.

The first half of the game was scrappy with both teams creating few chances in the encounter.

The Gunners took the lead in the 68th minute through a Nicolas Pepe beautifully curled left-footed shot that found the back of the net giving the visitors the lead.

Arsenal’s joy was short-lived as Brighton center-back Lewis Dunk scored from a corner kick after a goal-line scramble, that saw the ball past Arsenal’s goalkeeper Berd Leno.

A 95th-minute winning goal was scored by Maupay, who was involved in an earlier collision with the Gunners goalkeeper that the saw the German International stretched off the pitch.

Arteta has expressed his displeasure with his players for failing to hold on to an early advantage.

“I am very frustrated, It is unacceptable the way we lost the game. he told BBC Sport

“We like competing and I know we have a young squad but still, we threw the game away. We had to put it to bed earlier.”

Arteta refused to blame Maupay for his goalkeeper’s injury but admitted that the injury looks serious.

“I think it was very unfortunate, I don’t think he wanted to hurt him. It is not looking good. We have to fight and be positive; tomorrow is a different day. he added.

“I think the players that came on today did really well, we did more than enough to win the game comfortably, but we leave with zero points again.

“I think this was a very different one to the one against Manchester City. When you give cheap goals like we did in this one you will”

This is Arsenal’s second loss in a row, since the resumption of the premier league after suffering a 3-0 loss in the hand of Manchester City the last time out.

Arsenal hopes for a European spot next season is fast fading away with the Gunners currently 10th on the premier league table with 40 points from 30 games.
