Mason Greenwood set a new Premier League record  by becoming Manchester United’s highest-scoring  teeneager with his goal against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Greenwood’s goal against Aston Villa was his 16th in the English top-flight, breaking the club record previously held by Wayne Rooney.

The winger overtook legend Rooney as United all-time top-scoring teenager in the Premier League. Rooney had netted 15 times for the Red Devils by his 20th birthday.

The England international now has 28 competitive goals to his name for Solskjaer’s team.

Only two players scored more in all competitions for the club as teenagers – Norman Whiteside, who scored 39, and George Best (37).

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised the effort of the teenage sensation while urging him to improve.

“It is some achievement. We don’t really want to go behind but it gives us a little boost to come back and get the win,” Greenwood told BBC Sport

Speaking after the game Solskjaer said “Yeah, Mason’s turn and finish was absolutely top. The boy is learning. He’s learned the hard way and he’s got to play, he’s learning on the job.

“It is the intensity of this league, it’s high, and he had a hard game on Thursday and plays today and produces that goal. Well done. More to come, definitely. One hundred per cent.

“The boy is learning, hungry to learn and his desire and attitude is improving all the time.”
