Mainz05 open talks with Liverpool over Extension of Taiwo Awoniyi loan deal

Mainz05 have opened talks with Liverpool football club over talks to keep the Nigerian International for another season.

Mainz05 and Liverpool were understood to have agreed the termination of the loan deal of Taiwo Awoniyi at the Bundesliga team in January, over his lack of playing time, but instead, he chose to stay in Germany.

The 22- year-old has enjoyed a successful outing since the Bundesliga resumed, having to start in the last 3 matches and netting his first goal against Cologne.

But according to Mainz sporting Director Rouven Schroder there are talks to keep him for another season.

“Taiwo never let himself down, always had his head up and the absolute will to improve was never negative. It is a symbol of how team sport works.”Rouven Schroder told Bild.

Schroder is positive a deal will be stroke between the two clubs”We are in an exchange with Liverpool, that is an open position.
“We are now waiting for the last games. Then we’ll see what the next steps are”.

Awoniyi has contract with Liverpool until 2022/23 season and has been on loan at FSV Frankfurt, NEC, KAA Gent and Royal Excel Mouscron.
