Manchester United are preparing for contract talks with defender Luke Shaw. The in-form left-back has been one of United’s impressive performers in recent weeks and has been gainfully rewarded with an England recall by Southgate for the World Cup qualifiers against San Marino, Albania and Poland.

The 25-year-old is enjoying what has arguably been his best season with United since joining from Southampton in 2014.

He appears to have shaken off the injury problems which have affected him negatively for several years, hampering and delaying his progress at Old Trafford. As a result, and thanks to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s confidence in him, Shaw has established himself.

Shaw cost United almost £34million when he joined in 2014, having worked his way up through the Saints’ academy to their first team with a great deal of hardwork and determination.

Shaw returned to the England squad this week, but his teammate Marcus Rashford may be pulled out if he misses the FA Cup last eight clash with Leicester on Sunday.
