Liverpool in shock move for Arsenal defender Mustafi

Liverpool are considering a shock deal to sign Shkodran Mustafi from Arsenal as Jurgen Klopp tries to resolve their defensive crisis before the window closes in January, the Telegraph reported.

 

The Premier League champions had to do without center-backs Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez for most of the 2020/2021 season.

The duo sustained severe knee ligament injuries.

 

The absence of both defenders was felt even more difficult due to the sketchy injury record of Joel Matip. The Cameroonian came off injured against Spurs also defender Fabinho also has a problem.

Liverpool have been linked to a number of defenders like Lillen’s Sven Botman and RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano, but neither club is expected to sell in January, especially so late in the window.

 

Klopp now has Mustafi in his sights. The 28-year-old has not started a single league game for the Gunners this season.

The German defender has six months left on his current contract, but Arsenal could terminate his contract earlier this month and make him a free agent.
