All eyes will are on Liverpool as they look to strengthen their squad after their disappointing title defense last season.

Out of context, Liverpool’s third-place finish wouldn’t look or feel disastrous, yet their team’s lack of depth was painfully exposed when they fell through the table after losing six straight home games between January and February.

While eight wins in their last 10 games dragged the Reds back to the Champions League places, the speed with which the title defense collapsed was terrifying.

They have already secured coverage in central defense with the acquisition of Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig, but there are many more areas that Klopp wants to strengthen.

According to Italian media La Repubblica, Liverpool is preparing a move for Italian European champion Nicolo Barella.

The Inter Milan midfielder started six of seven matches for Roberto Mancini’s triumphant Italy, forming a solid midfield alongside players like Jorginho, Marco Verratti and Manuel Locatelli.

It has been a season to remember for Barella, who was also a key player in Inter Milan’s first Serie A victory, which ended a 10-year wait for a league title.

The 24-year-old midfielder wouldn’t be cheap and is believed to cost the Reds around £ 60 million.

However, with Inter reportedly looking to raise more funds to recover from the financial crisis caused by the Coronavirus, he could be available for purchase should Liverpool offer up the funds.

If the Reds were to pull off this headline deal, Barella would join a star-studded midfield and maybe perfect replacement for Gini Wijnaldum.
