
José, the father of Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker, drowned and died in a lake near his vacation home in southern Brazil on Wednesday, local police confirmed.
The 57-year-old had been swimming in a dam on the property but was declared missing around 5 p.m. Wednesday according to reports.
The Cacapava do Sul Fire Department sent a team to help in the search and located the body at 11:59 p.m.
Investigation so far revealed that no foul play was suspected.
Alisson moved to Liverpool in 2018 from Roma. His younger brother Muriel is also a Brazilian Fluminense goalkeeper.
It’s been confirmed by multiple outlets in Brazil now including @ESPNBrasil that Alisson’s father was found dead.

Internacional, for whom both brothers played, tweeted their condolences.
“It is with great sadness that we received the news of Jose Agostinho Becker’s death, the father of our ex-goalkeepers Alisson and Muriel,” the club said.
Clube do Povo wishes strength to family and friends in this moment of so much pain.”
Also, Sao Paulo wrote: “With much regret, Sao Paulo FC receives the sad news of the death of José Agostinho Becker, father of goalkeepers Alisson and Muriel. Our condolences and solidarity with the two athletes and their families. A lot of strength and a lot of light at this point.”
