Liverpool agree deal to sign RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate

Liverpool is set to seal £35 million deal to sign RB Leipzig center-back Ibrahima Konate, according to reports.

The Premier League champions have been hit by the long-term injuries of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip this season and, as a result, Jurgen Klopp is eager to improve his defensive options in the summer window.

Meanwhile, Konate has established himself as one of the most promising young defenders in the Bundesliga following his iimpressive performances with RB Leipzig.

Konate has attracted the interest of several Premier League clubs, including Chelsea and Manchester United.

But according to Sky Sports Journalist Fabrizio Romano Liverpool has won the race to sign the French defender on a five-year deal and expected to conclude contract in the next transfer window.

It’s huge news for Jurgen Klopp’s men, with the club having been linked with a host of defenders following the injury crisis that has played a notable part in Liverpool’s derailed season.
