Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema secured a valuable point for Real Madrid in Sunday’s Madrid derby.
Atlético forward Luis Suárez put the league leader ahead in the 15th minute with a magnificent goal from Marcos Llorente’s assist.
However, Benzema equalisef two minutes into injury time thanks to a wonderful assist from Casemiro, leaving the title race open.
With this result, Atlético extended their lead over second-placed Barcelona to 3 points, albeit with a game in hand, while Madrid are now behind their archrival with 2 points.
Speaking after the game Benzema said “We put in a good performance, it was very difficult against a good team.
“They had the better of the first half and we had the better of the second. It’s a good point for us.
“The move for the goal was good. I’m a bit annoyed because a few minutes earlier I could have scored but the keeper made a good save. I’m happy with the result, we’ve still got a lot to play for.
” This result means that the league is far from over and we can keep our eye on the title”.
