Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has praised his team for “controlling” RB Leipzig in their 2-0 away win in the UEFA Champions League at the Puskás Aréna in Hungary on Tuesday.

The Reds took charge of their Champions League round of 16 tie with two goals in the second half.

Mo Salah scored his 24th goal of the season in the 53rd minute after an avoidable error from Marcel Sabitzer.

Sadio Mane doubled the Reds lead just five minutes later. This time it was Nordi Mukiele who was at fault, who couldn’t deal with a Curtis Jones clearance.

Speaking after the win, Klopp told BT Sport “It was the game we wanted, the game we needed, tonight.

“Leipzig can be a real monster, they overrun teams, really physical, pretty much good in everything, and tonight we controlled them in an exceptional way, to be honest.

“You cannot build ‘mentality giants’ in one game. Tonight we were good, we deserved to win, it’s nice but it’s only one leg.”
