Jurgen Klopp claimed that his Liverpool side were not physically or mentally fresh enough against Brighton on Wednesday.

Liverpool had all possession, but really lacked the cutting edge in the attacking areas. Klopp’s team struggled to create many clear chances, as they only recorded one shot on goal over the course of 90 minutes.

The seagulls made life difficult for the hosts and were rewarded with the only goal of the match in the 56th minute through Steven Alzate.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live after the match, Klopp admitted that Brighton deserved to win:

“Disappointed, there is nothing to really smile about. Difficult to take. A really tough week, two away games, two very intense games, and tonight it seemed that we were not mentally and physically fresh enough.

“A lot of times when we gave the ball away too easily, at times the guys seemed mentally tired. I know they can pass the ball from A to B but it didn’t happen, we made it easy for Brighton but they did very well too.

“Brighton deserved to win, of that there is no doubt. It’s more important to me to find an explanation for why we lost this game and to understand what happened here tonight. We didn’t seem convincing.”
