Kai Havert revealed in Chelsea Carabao Cup clash against Championship side Barnsley as he netted a hat-trick to silences doubters.
The 21-year- old Chelsea new signing struggled in his first two matches for Frank Lampard’s side in the premier league, but has revealed his abilities against Barnsley.
The German International received criticism from a number of football fans on social media in his first two games, questioning the £62m fee spent in signing him. despite being in a new club and country.
Harvetz was the star player scoring his first goal and a first hat-trick in Chelsea 6-0 route over Barnsley in Wednesday third-round clash in the Carabo cup.
His treble will mute his doubters for at least some time, with so much still expected from Chelsea having recruited a number of new signings in the summer.
Harvetz was played in his favorite number 10 role by Lampard combining well with Tammy Abraham ahead of him while Mason Mount and Callum Hudson-Odoi covered the flanks. having been previously used as a forward in the blues first two matches.
Tammy Abraham opened the scoring for Chelsea following an error from a Barnsley defender.
Harvertz scored his first of the night latching onto a pass from Mount that was cleverly dummied by Abraham to make it 2-0.
Havertz added two more goals of his own with simple finishes laid on by assists from Abraham to claim the match ball before being substituted in the 66th minute.
Speaking after the match Harvetz revealed that the goals will boast his confidence.
“It is my first ever hat-trick,” Havertz said to Chelsea’s Fifth Stand App. “I will put the ball in a good corner in my house. It is a very big thing for me personally, but the most important thing is that we won.
“I think the first two matches were very difficult for me because I didn’t have pre-season and I trained only one week with the team but I think, step-by-step, I will be fitter.
“The match today was very good for me to get more confidence and I hope to continue like that. On Saturday, we have our next game and now we focus on that.”
Chelsea will next take on newly promoted side West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League on Saturday.
