Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Joel Matip may have suffered a serious ankle injury in Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Tottenham on Thursday.

The Champions ended a worrying run of five Premier League games without a win beating Spurs and getting back into the top four. Sadio Mane used Joe Rodon’s lack of concentration to put Thursday’s heavyweight duel to bed.

Pierre-Emile Hojberg had previously given Tottenham a glimmer of hope with a miracle goal in the 49th minute after Roberto Firmino and Trent Alexander-Arnold scored goals on both sides of half-time during a heated period.

Mane’s 65th-minute attempt put the game out of reach and Liverpool retained their two-goal lead to win the league for the first time since their 7-0 win over Crystal Palace on December 19 – but Matip’s injury dampened the evening for the reds.

“Yes, I am [pleased]. It was a great game, super intense, as I suspected before the game, ”Klopp told BT Sport shortly after the final whistle.

“We scored goals at the right moments, wonderful goals, the right people scored the goals.

“Apart from Joel Matip everything was fine.”

Klopp was asked to address Matip’s injury at his post-game press conference. He stated, “It looks serious, yes.”

This adds to Liverpool injury woes who have already been without Fabinho after the Brazilian international had a minor muscle problem and Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are long-term absent with serious knee injuries.
