Football Pundit Paul Merson believes Jurgen Klopp’s job is in danger if Liverpool misses out on a spot in next season’s Champions League.

The Premier League champions are currently in sixth place in the table and five points behind fourth-placed West Ham ahead of the clash against Sheffield United on Sunday night.

Klopp has already conceded defeat in the Premier League title race, which means a Top 4 finish or more in the Champions League is required if Liverpool are to compete with European elite teams next season.

And Merson believes Klopp’s position will be threatened if Liverpool fails to maintain their Champions League club status.

“One sure thing in management is the sack. Merson told Sky Sports.

“This manager is a great manager but let’s be honest, if he didn’t get in the Champions League next year, we’d seriously be talking, ‘how’s he carrying on?’… you would.

“For how great he is, and he is a great manager, and what he’s done for Liverpool, Mourinho’s done it at Chelsea.

“If they don’t finish in the top four, I think the manager would be in trouble.
The manager’s a winner, he ain’t hanging around.

“The problem is they didn’t kick on when they won the league. It was such a good team, it’s hard in this day and age.”
