RB Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann has offered couple of reasons as to why he believes Timo Werner has struggled to have a sufficient impact in his maiden season at Stamford Bridge
Soon-to-be Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann has revealed the key to unearthing Timo Werner’s true potential at Chelsea, insisting he will “fit in well” at Stamford Bridge.
Timo Werner will be looking to fire Germany to European Championship glory next month, has struggled in his main campaign at Stamford Bridge following his big-money move from RB Leipzig last June.
In 50 appearances for the Blues this season, Werner, who has been challenged by Blues head coach Thomas Tuchel to end the season with a bang against Aston Villa tomorrow afternoon, has netted just 12 goals, which is a truly underwhelming figure when you take into account just how much excitement and hype surrounded his arrival in west London almost a year ago.
But it has not been for a lack of trying, werner has produced countless hard shifts at the top end of the pitch, but his finishing time and time again has been his downfall.
And for RB Leipzig chief Nagelsmann, who watched Werner score 34 goals in 45 outings for his side last season, he believes it will all boil down to Tuchel’s management, with him insisting that his fellow countryman knows how to make players improve.
“Thomas [Tuchel] is a great coach and has shown in the past that he can make players better,” Nagelsmann told the Telegraph.
“Timo is a player that performs best when he is in his comfort zone, and I am still sure he will fit well in the Chelsea squad.
“Every striker goes through these periods once in a while. There have been times when Timo did not score in Leipzig as well.
“It is just a phase you have to get through.”
Looking from the outside, Nagelsmann, who will become the new boss at Bayern Munich this summer, believes Werner has had difficulties working with such a tight schedule.
