Jose Mourinho reacts after being appointed as new AS Roma Manager

Former Chelsea and Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho has been appointed as the new head coach of Serie A side AS Roma.

The 58-year-old has signed a three-year deal and will begin at the start of next season.

Roma, on its official Twitter handle, said: “The club are delighted to announce an agreement has been reached with Jose Mourinho for him to become our new head coach ahead of the 2021-22 season.”

Speaking after his appointment Mourinho said “After meetings with the ownership, I immediately understood their ambitions for Roma. Together we want to build a winning project.

“The incredible passion of the fans convinced me to accept the job. I can’t wait to start next season. Daje Roma!”

Mourinho was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur in April after just 17 months in charge of the Premier League side.

He now returns to Serie A for a second spell.

Mourinho spent two seasons with Inter Milan where he won a treble, before leaving to join Real Madrid in 2010.
