Chelsea Ace midfielder Jorginho is currently one of Chelsea players who benefitted very much from Thomas Tuchel replacing Frank Lampard as Chelsea manager in January.

Under Frank Lampard, Jorginho was in and out of the team and started just eight of the first 19 Premier League games this season.

Since Tuchel took charge, Jorginho has been crucial to Chelsea’s style of play and only missed two of Tuchel’s 18 league matches in charge.

The central-midfielder even finished the season as the Blues top-scorer in the Premier League.

Jorginho played every minute of Chelsea’s run through the knock-out rounds of the Champions League, bar the second leg against Atletico Madrid for which he was suspended.

“Every coach makes his own choices, they are all different. Lampard is a Chelsea legend, he has his view, but maybe Jorginho’s characteristics were not the best ones for him,” Santos told Football Italia.

Since Lampard’s departure, Jorginho and N’Golo Kante have formed a formidable partnership in midfield that has led the Blues from tenth place to a top-four finish and a Champions League triumph over Manchester City in Porto.

“Football is about results. Jorginho and [N’Golo] Kanté are playing really well now,” Santos added.

“They won the Champions League this season and to me they form the best midfield partnership in Europe right now.”

There is no arguing that the midfield duo have performed to an extremely high level and the good news for Blues fans is that it looks like it will continue for at least another two seasons, according to Santos.

“He has two years left in his contract,” he added.

“Chelsea have many targets for 2021-22. The Champions League, the Premier League, the FA Cup, the European Super Cup, so we are planning to stay there.”
