Former Bolton Wanderers midfielder Austin ‘Jay-Jay’ Okocha has told Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah to leave Premier League champion Liverpool and join LaLiga giants Barcelona.
Salah, a former Chelsea star, has recently been linked to a move away from Jurgen Klopp’s side, who won the Premier League title last season, with two years remaining on his contract.
There was speculation linking the player to a transfer to Real Madrid and Barcelona after he described the Spanish giants as “big clubs.”
Liverpool are currently having a bad run of form, losing four straight games in the Premier League and out of the race to defend their title, a situation that has increased rumors that Salah will be leaving Anfield.
Okocha believes Salah is out of energy in the Merseyside and should join Barcelona if the opportunity presents itself.
“If there is a chance to join Barcelona, I advise Salah to go there. His energy has run out with Liverpool, Okocha told ONTime Sports.
“The situation is now regressing in Liverpool, and Salah must leave the Premier League. If there is any chance to join Barcelona, I advise him to go there,” he added.
Meanwhile, Liverpool icon Ian Rush has endorsed Salah to remain at Anfield because of the connection he has with the club’s supporters.
“I think Liverpool has a broad appeal,’ Rush told HorseRacing.net earlier this month.
“Teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid have the history, same as with Liverpool and Manchester United, and for him to be linked to any of those clubs means that he is one hell of a player but for me, I think Mo Salah will stay at Liverpool.
“The fans love him, he loves the fans.”
