Italian Serie A set June 13 as possible return date

The Italian Serie A has announced a provisional return date of June 13 amid the COVID-19

With league games set to restart on June 13, this will be exactly three months that the last match was played amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“Regarding the resumption of sporting activity, the date of June 13 June for the resumption of the championship was indicated, in accordance with government decisions and in accordance with the medical protocols for the protection of players and all professionals,” read a statement from Serie A, according to

The Italian sports minister Vincenzo Spadafora had earlier granted Permission for individual training and on Wednesday gave the green light for group training to resume.

“A few minutes ago I received a letter from the president of the FIGC (Italian Football Federation) [Gabriele] Gravina, in which he announced that the FIGC had accepted all the comments of the Scientific Technical Committee, readjusting the protocol allowing without other difficulties to resume training from May 18,” said Vincenzo Spadafora. 

Italy is one of the worst-hit countries in the world by the COVID-19 with 222,104 confirmed cases and over 31,000 death as of 13th May, 20020.
