Italian serie A teams are set to return to individual training on May 4 and team training on May 18, following the prime minister’s announcement on lifting the country’s COVID-19 lockdown.

I love football, it seemed strange living without Serie A but it’s what was needed, now we start training, then we will see if competitions can return,

There are twelve matches left to be played in the Italian top-flight, that could resume toward the end of next month or early June as the season is set to be concluded in August.

Juventus one point ahead of second-placed team Lazio on the table.

Serie A was suspended March 9 to control the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, with a number of players testing positive for the virus.

In a televised address the Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said that players would be able “to undertake training individually from 4 May, in groups from 18 May, and then we’ll evaluate if there are the conditions to allow the season to be completed.

Italian football federation(FIGC) is set to conduct a test for all players before they return to training.

“We need to complete all the discussions to ensure that if we do reach that stage, we’ll do so in the utmost safety and security. We are passionate about sport and don’t want our athletes to get sick. he added.

“I’m passionate for football. Like many Italians, I initially found it strange that the championship could be interrupted or suspended but I think that even the most ardent fan understands that there wasn’t an alternative.”

Italy is one of the worst hit countries in Europe with over 26,000 death as a result of the pandemic.
