Thibaut Courtois: It wouldn’t be right to crown Barcelona La Liga champions

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has said, crowning Barcelona La Liga champions “wouldn’t be completely right”

The Spanish La Liga two top-flight divisions were halted in March amid the coronavirus.

However, league games hope to resume in June as clubs return for individual training this week, so as to complete the 2019/20 season.

Barcelona were top of La Liga table, two points ahead of rivals Real Madrid before the league was suspended with 11 Fixtures left to round up the season.

Speaking in an interview on his website he said: “We are two points behind Barcelona, so it’s still possible we can be champions,” “It would be unfortunate if the season were cancelled.

“If they decide to stop the competition and Barcelona are named champions, I wouldn’t find it completely right. They drew once against us and lost once, so we showed them that we’re a better team. We’re two points behind them, but I wouldn’t agree with that.

Real Madrid players are set to return to their training ground on Wednesday for a coronavirus test, with the hope of resuming next week Monday after clearance from the medical teams.

“I think we should be playing, but of course we have to consider our safety,” Courtois said. “We have to be 100% sure before we play again because you can be infected without carrying symptoms.

“You have to be careful who you come into contact with. What happens when there’s a player infected on another team? But of course, I’d love to finish the season.”
