Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi mikel joins Stoke City

Former Super Eagles Captain John Obi Mikel has made a return to English football after sealing a deal with Stoke City.

Stoke City have announced the signing of former Nigerian International John Obi Mikel on a one year deal.

The former Chelsea midfielder spent 11 years at Stamford bridge winning 8 major trophies with the blues, has become the potters fourth signing of the 2019/20 summer.

The 33-year- old has been without a club after departingΒ  Trabzonspor in the Super Lig by Mutual consent in March this year.

This was after he expressed concerns over continuing of play amid the COVID-19.

“We’re delighted to bring John to the Club. His playing career speaks for itself and underlines his calibre as a player, O’Neill told Stoke’s website

β€œWe spent four hours talking, and he made it clear he wants to get back into the Premier League and finish his career there, and hopefully he can do that with Stoke City.”

This will be Mikel’s third spell in English football, having played for Chelsea a short stint with Middlesbrough before joining Turkish side Trabzonspor on a two-year deal in the summer of 2019.
